An important aspect of the project was creating illustrations that echoed the semantic connections of the signs. For example, the sign for "tissue" is formed from the signs for "cell" and "knit". The wiggling of fingers in the sign for "bacteria" reflects the idea that bacteria are considered living, whereas a virus does not typically classify as a living organism.
